ConAgra Foods First Corporate Responsibility Report Now Available Online
ConAgra Foods provides food millions of people count on every day, and we're constantly finding better ways to do just that. As we work to deliver products with improved nutrition, taste and value, our commitment to Corporate Responsibility means that we're also finding ways to create a healthier environment, provide more opportunity for those in need, and be a larger catalyst for economic growth.
Our goal is to make the foods that people love. The first-ever, Corporate Responsibility Report captures that spirit by transparently stating how the company is doing in climate change, water conservation, packaging, food safety, corporate giving and a wide range of other important areas. The report describes not only the achievements we've made so far, but also those areas where we are focused on making additional progress in the future. Our first Corporate Responsibility Report is intended to serve as a baseline from which to measure our performance going forward.
Within environmental protection and resource conservation, there are many initiatives under way that are conserving energy, reducing waste and saving precious resources. Those efforts are represented by packaging, product and supply chain improvements. For example, our Hunt's® ketchup bottle has received international recognition for its more environmentally friendly packaging design, and our frozen food trays are the first in North America to use post-consumer recycled material, eliminating eight million pounds of landfill waste.
With regard to social well-being, the company is leading the charge to raise awareness of the issue of childhood hunger in America—fighting to nourish kids' bodies and minds today, so they have the opportunity to flourish later in life. The ConAgra Foods Foundation is focused on combating child hunger and enabling nutrition education programs and services. It's not enough to simply feed those who are food insecure; it is also essential to provide tools and knowledge to help individuals sustain balanced lifestyles well into the future. In the last dozen years, ConAgra Foods has provided more than 166 million pounds of food to families in need, and donated more than $25 million in grants to support programs and initiatives that feed children and families in need.
